Rabbi's Week in Review
The present Israeli-Palestinian conflict rarely strays from my thoughts. I tend to be a news junkie — television, radio and print media — during more settled times, and these are not settled times. I’m rarely far from the next piece of news regarding the hostages or progress toward a cessation of the destruction from all sides.
This Week's Torah Portion Parashat Vayishlach (Bereishit/Genesis 32:4-36:43)
We read of another of Jacob’s dreams, wrestling with a man/an angel/G-d/Jacob’s subconscious. As we continue to wrestle in regard to what is right, just, compassionate and humane in regard to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, we must remember that it is in the wrestling that we hold on to our humanity and make progress in creating a more just world.
Upcoming Kol Ami Events
Mah Jongg Club The next game night is 7 p.m. Monday, December 4, at All Souls. Interested in playing or have questions? Email office@kolamikc.org.
Shabbat and Chanukah Celebration At 6:45 p.m. Friday, December 8, we celebrate Shabbat and the Festival of Lights. Bring your Chanukiah (Chanukah menorah) and candles. Lara and Dan Steinel are bringing latkes to share at the Oneg!
Bring Joy (Oneg) to First-Friday Shabbat Services We are looking for some mensches to pick a month to bring simple handheld treats — veggies, brownies, cookies, etc. — to one of our Friday-night Shabbat services to share with service attendees. If/when you pick a month, we also know we'll have the pleasure of your company during Shabbat worship and post-service schmoozing.
