Rabbi's Week in Review
For the next couple of weeks, I will be providing information on an important event taking place March 2 in Jefferson City, Mo. I would be more than remiss, however, if I did not make some mention of the horrific shooting that took place at the end of the Chiefs Super Bowl celebration.
This Week's Torah Portion Parashat Tetzaveh (Shemot/Exodus 27:20-30:10)
Last week, we read how the Torah gave us specifications for the building of the Mishkan, the Holy Tabernacle, and how we construct sacred space. This week, the Torah focuses on the Kohanim, the Priests who will carry out sacred duties in that space.
In our Torah study this past Shabbos, we discussed what the criteria might be for creating sacred space. Among those who gathered together to celebrate a Kol Ami Shabbat, there was fairly widespread agreement that sacred space is created by the people who act intentionally to bring together a sacred community of people who make lives sacred through their actions.
