Rabbi's Week in Review
I came across an article Sunday from The Washington Post, really an excerpt from the book To Be a Jew Today: A New Guide to G-d, Israel, and the Jewish People, by Harvard law professor Noah Feldman. The very, very short point of the article is that we are a loving yet sometimes dysfunctional family. According to Feldman, this is the basis for the present acrimony within the Jewish community toward the Israel-Palestine ... Click here to read the rest of Rabbi Doug's blog post.
This Week's Torah Portion Parashat Pekudei (Shemot/Exodus 38:21-40:38)
With this Torah portion, we complete the Book of Shemot/Exodus and we complete the building of the Mishkan, the Holy Tabernacle. Nehama Leibowitz aptly observes that the construction of the Mishkah involved all the people, that our communal covenant requires that we come together as a community in our obligation to G-d and to one another.
Kol Ami News
A New Music Director By Pat Clinton, Kol Ami board president
We are pleased to announce that Karen Engebretson will be Kol Ami’s new music director.
Karen is a familiar face (and a familiar sound) at our services. She has been with us since 2014, and has a wide range of experience — accompanying others as well as acting as a soloist, and helping plan and interpret the music we enjoy. She has also played at B'nai Jehudah and Beth Shalom.
She is excited about this new position and is looking forward to introducing new music in the coming years. We welcome Karen and look forward to her tenure.
Bring Joy (Oneg) to Our First-Friday Shabbat Services
Thank you again to Haley Ferguson and Miranda Klinck for providing a lovely Oneg Shabbat for our Friday, March 1, service. And thank you to Jon Scheinman and Anita Grow, who will provide April oneg treats.
We invite other mensches to volunteer to bring simple vegetarian goodies (veggies, hummus, pita, crackers and cheeses, cakes, cookies, nuts, fruits, etc.) to share with Shabbat-service attendees following the first Friday-night service of the month. Kol Ami provides the challah and grape juice.
When you pick a month, we also know we’ll have the pleasure of your company for Shabbat worship and post-service schmoozing. if you’re interested in providing the Oneg in May, please email worship@kolamikc.org.
