Worship Event of the Week
Shabbat Hanukkah We are at All Souls at 6:45 p.m. this coming Friday, December 27, to celebrate Shabbat and Hanukkah. This is always a special time at Congregation Kol Ami.
Bring your Hanukkah menorahs, with enough candles to celebrate the third night of the holiday — we’ll light candles and make the Hanukkah candle blessings together. Our Oneg includes festive treats — sufganiyot, Hanukkah cookies from Kol Ami’s recent cooking class, cheeses, and more.
At this Festival of Lights, we bring our own light into this time of darkness on the calendar, with the flames of the menorah and our inner light.

Bishop Budde leaned into the message of Christmas and what she saw as a message of peace placed in our human world via Jesus. She cited verses from the New Testament. I found nothing at all inappropriate in her reflections, bringing a perspective on Christian theology that leads our world to a better place.
Rabbi Leder made mention of the Hanukkah message — a message of religious freedom with the rededication of the Temple, and a message of our Festival of Lights, bringing needed light into the winter season, the darkest time of the year. His primary focus, however ... Click here to read the rest of Rabbi Doug's blog post.
This Week's Torah Portion
Parashat Miketz (Bereishit/Genesis 41:1-44:17) For Hanukkah, we also read from Parashat Naso in the Book of Bamidbar/Numbers
In Parashat Miketz, we continue the Joseph narrative as we delve into Joseph’s reconnection with his brothers, and how he begins to move toward a place of reconciliation from a place of pain and resentment. It is a choice that we all face at points in our lives.
