Something good to talk about: this past Erev Shabbat we celebrated Pride Month with Pride Shabbat. Ga’avah KC sponsored this wonderful evening with our Congregation Kol Ami family, Beth Torah, and Jewish Experience.
Thanks particularly to Brad Ordo as the Community Chair for Ga’avah. We are so lucky at Kol Ami that he is also our Kehilah Vice-President. Beyond his leadership he is always the first one to engage in any task needed to make it all work. This Week's Torah Portion Parashat Beha’alotecha
(Bamidbar/Numbers 8:1-12:16)
This week, we read of two leaders of the people, Eldad and Medad who profess to have the spirit of prophecy. The people complain that they have in their enthusiasm exceeded their roles in the community. Moses defends them saying that If only everyone would take that initiative. (I’m paraphrasing here.) During this difficult moment in our country and in our world we all can be liked Eldad and Medad, each in our own way, to lead us to a better place.
Urgent Assistance Request
The Migrant Farmworkers Assistance Fund (MFAF) is urgently in need of donations of dry beans and white rice (no canned beans or instant rice, please)for the families working the Lafayette County orchards this year. MFAF is expecting that 350-400 migratory farmworker families will arrive in mid-July, adding to the 300-350 year-round workers. MFAF provides families with wrap-around services - food, hygiene items, healthcare, education assistance for children, legal assistance, and more.
As always, MFAF has an ongoing need for your donations of brown paper bags.
