This week, I’m sharing two important pieces that speak to current issues in our country. Read more
First is a letter recently published in the Kansas City Star, written by the board of Missouri Faith Voices—on which I serve—and addressed to Senator Josh Hawley...Read the letter here
Second is an article from The Guardian about the Old Glory Club, an extremist, antisemitic group with a growing following...Read the article here
This Week's Torah Portion Parashat Balak (Bamidbar/Numbers 22:2-25:9)
This week, we read the strange story of Bala’am and his donkey who sees the angel that Ba’alam cannot. Bala’am is sent by Balak, king of the Moabites to curse the Israelites but blesses them instead. Maybe it is a more universal lesson about how curse is transformed into blessing when we truly get to know the other; a community we did not really know and previously demonized, turning to blessing when we see our shared humanity.
Longtime Kol Ami member Edi Shifrin has now returned home from rehab after a fall, which is something to celebrate, and also brings new challenges. In addition to visitors and support getting to doctor's appointments, running errands, etc. Edi could use some support with meals, so we've put together this meal train. If you have questions, please reach out to Julia at engagement@kolamikc.org Thank you for your support!

The Migrant Farmworkers Assistance Fund (MFAF) is urgently in need of donations of bags of pinto beans and bags of white rice(NOT canned beans and NOT instant rice, please)for the families working the Lafayette County orchards this year. Please place donations in designated bins at All Souls.
