Rabbi's Week In Review - 11/2/2021

Nov2

I provide this week a couple of random thoughts, writing this while Fay and I are on vacation.  (This is a vacation that was originally planned and booked prepandemic, and postponed about four times since.)

First, the notion of “getting away from it all” is a bit of a myth these days. At least, that seems to be the case for me. I have remained at least somewhat connected to life back home and the real world, whether due to technology and access or the real world having a way of creeping in. Truth be told, this is as much my own doing as it is any external influence.

My second thought is one of gratitude — gratitude for those who step up in my absence and keep us moving, connected to one another and meeting concerns. So my thanks go to Lara for leading Shabbat blessings, to Stan and Lara for leading our weekday-morning service and study, to Wynne and our board for handling issues that arise and being there for anyone at Kol Ami who is in need.

Previous comments notwithstanding, Fay and I really have had a wonderful and relaxing time on vacation and, for me, some much-needed time away to regroup. I could not have that time without the incredible work of our Kol Ami leadership, who give so much to make us a truly caring and amazing kehilah.
