Rabbi's Week in Review - 10/28/2024

Oct28

As I write this, we are one week away from elections. I have and will continue to express my concerns regarding the outcome of the election. In that regard, a reflection or two.

As I have stated on numerous occasions, and will continue to remind everyone, no one is required to agree with me to be part of the Kol Ami community. I have to confess to my own sense of fear as to possible outcomes of the election.

Please understand that in whatever views I express, I am leading with what I think are foundational Jewish values, and what I think is in the best interest of the Jewish people — both our Kol Ami community and beyond. Emotions have run incredibly high, with few of them being positive. It has mostly been a combination of anger and fear. Whatever the outcome, after next Tuesday there will be frayed emotions on all sides and much healing to be done. And, whatever the outcome, the problems we have had for quite some time will still be our problems.

Now more than ever, we need to support one another and commit ourselves (as we have done with our Yom Kippur prayers) to do what we can to improve the state of our community, our state and country, and the world. Most of all, we need to fight through the fear and anger to live as a beacon of hope, to be the light to the nations that is reflected in our Torah.

Please everyone, VOTE. And then be ready to do the needed work of healing to follow.
