This Week's Torah Portion- 

This week’s Torah portion is Parashat Emor (Vayikra/Leviticus 21:1-24:23). The Parashah addresses our Jewish calendar, the Chaggim — the holidays recounted in the Torah. While there was a strong agrarian influence behind how the festivals were established (an agrarian purpose that resonates far less prominently today), we still find meaning in the rhythm of our Jewish calendar.

Caring Connections — We’re Going to Be Reaching Out to Kol Ami Members

Over the next several weeks, one of our Board members and volunteers (see below)* will be reaching out to you to check in, get better acquainted, see how your family is dealing with the pandemic, and how Kol Ami can help make it a bit more bearable. It will also be an opportunity to shamelessly brag about our new website and fill you in on what we’ve been up to in these unprecedented times and vice versa. We want to hear from you, and we’re not waiting by the phone for you to call. We’ll do the reaching out, and we’re simply looking forward to getting to know you a bit better as we build our community together.

Kol Ami’s Jewish Meditation Wants Your Feedback

Last month was our first Jewish meditation session on Zoom. It went smoothly and had good attendance. Whether you attended or not, or hope to in the future, we’d value your “yes” or “no” responses to these questions, and feel free to comment as needed to Lara Steinel at music@kolamikc.org :

• Did the Zoom session on Sunday afternoon, 4/26, work for you?
• Whether or not you attended the Zoom session, would you want to see all meditation sessions conducted on Zoom rather than at All Souls or some other venue, where we would be physically gathered together, observing safe distancing?
• Are you open to meditating in places where social distancing would not be difficult, like our Manheim garden at 43rd and Forest?
