Missouri governor Mike Kehoe appears to be zeroing in, or taking the lead from the efforts in Texas, to thwart democracy and the will of the people by gerrymandering out congressional districts that represent voters of color. This, in and of itself, is alarming. In addition, in stating his views, Kehoe said that this would allow Missouri to live according to its “Christian values.”
I can’t believe I need to say this in 2025, both the US and the Missouri Constitution say nothing about our nation, or our state, being a Christian nation...Read more
This Week's Torah Portion Parshat Ekev (Devarim/Deuteronomy 7:12-11:25)
This week, we read of the need to cut away, to circumcise the thickening from around our hearts. In this time when many of our leaders act in a way we would describe as heartless, we must remember to always act with compassion, and to circumcise the thickness-the cruelty from our hearts and our actions.
Call for Volunteers: Caring Connections
Kol Ami leadership is excited to announce that we are rekindling the Caring Connections initiative from the early years of the pandemic and revamping it to suit the needs of our community in the present. As part of this effort, we are recruiting volunteers who can provide occasional assistance to congregants with short-term transportation, meal preparation, minor home maintenance/repairs, or home/hospital visit needs.
For more information, check out this FAQ page about the program. If you are interested in volunteering, you can sign up here!
If you have any questions or need more information, please email Kol Ami President, Haley Ferguson, at president@kolamikc.org.
Chipotle for Change: Migrant Farmworkers Fundraiser August 23rd
The Migrant Farmworkers Assistance Fund (MFAF) will receive 25% of sales on Saturday, August 23rd from 4-8 PM at Chipotle, 6920 Mission Road in Prairie Village.
Before you pay for your order, you must tell the cashier you are there for the Migrant Farmworkers fundraiser. Orders may be placed online or by phone between 4 - 8 PM only. Use code: BX8YBTW and mention Migrant Farmworkers. Delivery is not an option for this event.
This is the busiest time of the year for MFAF. Several hundred farmworkers and families arrived in the last two weeks, and we've been busy with registrations for school children, vaccinations, medical and dental appointments, and more. This harvest season is very plentiful with peaches and apples.
Join us and tell your friends and colleagues. This location has inside and outside seating. Thank you for your support of the farmworkers and the families we accompany, advise, and serve.
