Rabbi's Week in Review

This coming Monday we celebrate Labor Day. I think about the long history of Jewish involvement with the worker movement, the formation of unions in order to gain what we now take for granted as basic rights for workers. Yet these rights are at risk, and the fight for workers to make a living wage, have access to quality healthcare that should be everyone’s right, and just to have time with family without the need to hold down multiple jobs continues.
Unions have been, and continue to be instrumental in insuring that workers rights are protected, and they are provided lives of dignity....Read more
This Week's Torah Portion
Parashat Shofetim
(Devarim/Deuteronomy 16:18-21:9)
This week, we read Tzedek, Tzedek Tirdof; that we are to pursue absolute justice. Read in context the admonition os to administer justice with judges and police who act justly and fairly. Our judicial institutions such as the federal Department of Justice, rather than act as Trump’s personal attorneys, seeking retribution on those who would dare to oppose him are obligated to act with impartiality, and that with the understanding that the rule of law applies to everyone equally.

GoFundMe Request for Edi Shifrin
Edi Shifrin has taken care of others throughout her life and could now use our help. Recent health events have resulted in Edi being unable to live at home without some daily help. Though friends and family are helping as much as they’re able, we’re reaching out to those who know Edi and can spare some time to help.
Our goal is to pay for two hours per day, three days per week, for 6 to 12 months. Your generosity will help Edi live more comfortably and independently. No amount is too small. Any amount is greatly appreciated. Thank you, in advance, for considering a donation to help Edi.
If you're able to help, please visit her GoFundMe page.
With gratitude, Friends of Edi Shifrin

We will carpool from the All Souls parking lot with a departure no later than 3:30 PM. If you can’t make it to Lexington but want to contribute, food preparation for sack dinners is also needed.
